Note
Seeks placement for Benoni Simmons,who was "last year on Lake Champlain in the station of gunner paid ... at the rate of 15 dollars per month...."
Mason was Lt. Col. of Artillery Artificers, and Knox asks him "to receive [Simmons] as a sargeant and draw his back pay subsistence money & mileage according to the certificates he shall procure."
"I shall endeavor to get him his full pay allowed by Congress, but at present it s out of my power."

Both Knox and Mason were original members of the Massachusettes Society of the Cincinnati
