"By the enclosed letter from His Excellency's secretary [not included], you willl discover that I have with some difficulty obtained leave of absence for you till the first day of December next; at which time, I must desire and expect that you will be punctual."
"Indeed, it would be much better if you could be here in November, it would be giving an opportunity to another officer of get[t]ing a furlough...."
"Your pay and subsistance goes on from the time you left camp."
Wood, in command of a Virginia regiment of the Continental Army, was an original member of the Virginia Society of the Cincinnati.
