Note
Kept by Captain John Hutchison Buell; diary begins his march from Morristown to participate in the battle of Connecticut farms in June, 1780 & documents his service and the movements of this regiment over the next 3 years in New Jersey and New York as they kept the British boxed in New York City. He drilled with General Steuben and dined with General Washington on more than one occasion.
Bound in marbled paper.
Ms. inscriptions on verso of front cover: "John Buell bought in Philadelphia 23 Octr 1776"; "G. Buell Hollister" (daughter of the author).
Purchased with a miniature portrait of Buell & a silver beaker engraved with his cipher (Museum collection: M.2013.011.1-2).
Carbon copy of a typescript of "Revolutionary war service of John H. Buell, Hebron, Conn." removed to case file.
