Schuyler's military secretary during this period that covers the ill-fated expedition to Canada; from Nov. 30, 1775 to Aug. 27, 1776, over £140,000 recorded in managing the business affairs of Schuyler's office; includes payments to Indians for venison; payments for paper, quills & pen knives; payments to carpenters & boat men; and cash to officers, enlisted men & civilians, including an occasional reimbursements.
Includes A.D.S. Albany August 27 1776 signed by Major Henry B. Livingston at end (Livingston, Schuyler's staff, certified the settlement of that date: "on this day Capt. Richd. Varick & M. General Schuyler settled accounts ... the Genl. signed a certicate ...")
One entry, for January 29, 1776, records payment of £10.0.0 to Captain James Stewart. See also A.D.S. pay order by Gen. Schuyler to Capt. Varick, Jan. 29.1776 (MSS L1969.32.5.1 M): requesting payment of "twenty-five-dollars" to Capt. James Stewart on January 29, 1776; docketed on verso: "Jany 29.1776 / Capt.
