Typescripts of two speeches, each annotated in pencil, given before the New York State Society of the Cincinnati
The first, addressed to "Your Excellency, Mr. Chairman The Governor of New York and Marshal Foch, the Ambassador of France, was given on the occasion of Foch's induction to the General Society as an honorary member. Leaf [2] is a carbon copy of the typescript. It is accompanied by a handwritten not in pencil: "Gentlemen of the Cincinnati - I ask you to rise and acclaim our new member of the order, Marshall Foch with the assurance that undying friendship of America for France will endure forever. (1 leaf; 16cm.)
In pencil, at the top of p. [1] of item [2]: Memo Speech at luncheon Cin. Fraunces Tavern, Nov. 26, 1923.
The second, Nov. 12, 1923, discusses the resconstitution of the French Society, and refers to conditions in various European countries after WWI. It also discusses the Leage of Nations, President Wilson, and the Treaty of Versailles.
In 1920, Pendleton was the Vice President of the New York State Society of the Cincinnati, and in 1923, the President.
Also included is the envelope with letterhead of the Secretary's Orrice, Society of the Cincinnati in the State of New York.
