Note
Kimball Prince writes to his former commanding officer in the Second New York Regiment for securing his military pension. He had lost the documents that proved his service but goes on to recount in detail his participation in tracking General Burgoyne, the winter encampment at Valley Forge, the Battle of Monmouth, skirmishes with the Indians, etc. He reminds his commander that once he was entrusted to "take letters from Gen. Washington on to Gen. Hand, who was laying then at the [M…] on the Dilleware [sic]." Prince concludes that "by reason of sickness and infirmity I stand in need of support from my Country."
Docketed: "A coppy [sic] of a letter to Col. Philip vn Cortland [sic]. To Col. Phillip [sic] vn Courtlandt [sic] in the town of Courtlandt. State New York."
With: a short letter to Kimball Prince from his brother, Christopher Prince, May 1, 1820, expressing concern for him and offering him "some old clothes… I do not know of any body that could dispose of them to better advantage than your self…."
