"According to a requisition made by the General Government of the United States on the State of Maryland, for a proportion of the draughts and volunteers, you are appionted to the command of them at this place for its defence. You will therefore proceed as quick as poissible to this place and report yourself to the Commander in Chief."
Gassaway was an original member of the Maryland Society of the Cincinnati
