Both men were revolutionary war heroes and members of the Society of the Cincinnati. The broadside criticizes Brooks support of the Hartford Convention that opposed the United States involvement in the War of 1812 and challenges Brooks military record during the revolutionary war, especially his performance at the battle of Saratoga.
