Date supplied from context. Greene had gone south to Charleston in May, 1781, then in June had suffered setbacks at Eutaw Springs and elsewhere.
War news includes General Greene's "misfortune," the Marquis' [Lafayette's] troops at Williamsburg, the British on board their ships near Jamestown. Wanye's attack on the British, and the Baron's [Steuben's] illnessthat caused him to "retire to this place" to recover.
Greene, Lafayette, Morris, North, Steuben, and Wayne were all original members of the Society of the Cincinnati.
