James A. Gamble was one of the founders of Proctor & Gamble.
"Mr. Longworth, some years since, leased to J. K. Coolidge a lot on Walnut Street in your place. Coolidge was to pay the taxes on it but I believe neglected to do so." Anderson requests that Gamble let him know of any arrears due.
Anderson's mention of Longworth refers to Nicholas Longworth (1844-1890), his father-in-law, a land speculator who established the family's wealth. Larz Anderson's wife was Catherine Longworth Anderson.
On lined paper, partially separated at folds.
See case file for a letter from James Hall dated May 2, 1861, describing three lots in Louiville that were deeded from Larz and Catherine Anderson to Mary Louisa Hall. Larz and Catherine Anderson were the parents of Larz Anderson, the builder of Anderson House.
