Admiral John Byng, in command of the British fleet trying to recapture Minorca, was later court-martialed and executed for his failure.
Text sets the scene beginning May 19, 1756 at 11:00 am when the Phenix first spotted a fleet of "16 sail of French men of war" & events continued till in the evening of May 20th.
At bottom of the text: detail of the vessels in each fleet, name, captain & number of guns; English fleet at top numbered & signals hand colored; French at below lettered.
