Depicts Boston and Charlestown and the positions and movements of the American and British forces on and around Breed's Hill; a note in the Charles River just west of Charlestown Neck: "Hither the Ships ought to have come," a comment on General Clinton's recommendation to trap the Americans on the Charlestown peninsula that was overruled by General Howe.
At foot is text in letterpress with caption: "The following description of the action near Boston, on the 17th of June, is taken from a letter written by General Burgoyne to his nephew Lord Stanley": account of the battle, including his following the order to set fire to Charlestown.
