Thanks Sargent for sending a copy of his Journal of the general meeting of the Cincinnati, which Sargent had published the previous year.
Sunnyside was the name of Irving's home in Tarrytown, N.Y.
Irving had published several volumes of his Life of George Washington, which included a chapter on the founding of the Society: "The notes you have appended to it increase its value and make it a very interesting document."
Winthrop William Sargent, the grandson of Winthrop Sargent of the Continental Line, was a member of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati.
