The Quebec Act of 1774 is considered one of the "intolerable" or "coercive" acts that fueled revolutionary fervor in America. The Act continued the right to govern by an appointed (not elected) governor and council, extended the boundaries of Quebec south to the Ohio River and West to the Mississippi, restored French civil law and pledged the toleration of the Roman Catholic religion in Quebec.
