Note
Account journal documents created under the direction of New York merchant James Abeel; massive amounts of goods & materials that were procured & distributed to the Continental Army troops during the war, including winter encampment at Morristown. Recurring charges are found for tents, harnesses, wagons, knapsacks & iron purchased in bulk for the production of cups, nails, kettles, etc. Entries under "Stationery" record payments for paper, quills, printing & binding.
Also includes numerous payments to women who made and washed knapsacks, clothing, etc.
Ms. & penciled notes on front & back pastedown.
Ms. notes & annotations on loose leaves removed to case file.
