Vouchers persuant to a resolution of the standing committee authorizing the treasurer of the New York State Society of the Cincinnati to make payment to various people, mostly widows of former members of the New York State Society of the Cincinnati.
Number 2, 8 November 1837, authorizes $30 to Mr. Gregory for Widow Strong.
Numbers 4, 9,11, and 13 authorize $50 each to Wm. B. Crosby in favor of an unidentified "widow" or "Mrs" Brennan.
Number 5, Nov. 9, 1839, authorizes payment of $132 to Charles A. Clinton for the July 4th 1839 annual dinner; no. 10, Nov. 10, 1840, also to C. A. Clinton, was for $27.14, no purpose specified.
Number 6, Nov. 9, 1839, to "widow Herring" was received by Eliza Herring "for my mother", Catharina (Myers) Herring.
Number 7.1 "to Widow Snow" received by Isaac Sturges for Lucy Snow. Number 7.2 is a manuscript document signed by Lucy Snow authorizing the Secretary of the Society to pay Isaac Sturges "the money awarded me" -- Albany, Nov. 25, 1839.
Number 12, Nov. 10, 1840 awards $50 to a Sergeant John M. Carr.
Number 13, May 13, 1841 awards $50 to "widow Holden" (Thankful Cutting Holden); her daughter, Mary, signs as recipient.
Among the immutable principles of the Society of the Cincinnati is "to ... dictate brotherly kindnesses in all things, and particulary extend to the most substantial acts of beneficience, according to the ability of the Society, towards those Officers and their families who unfortunately may be under the necessity of receiving it."
