According to Francis Heitman, James Green was an ensign in the 6th Virginia Regiment; he was also a major in the Virginia militia. The case file for this document states that he was the brother of Col. John Green, an original member of the Virginia Society of the Cincinnati.
Pasted on verso: This is signature & crest of my ancestor Major James Green 1st, vi son of Robert Green emmigrant [sic] -- 1710. Anne Page M. Chewning, 1920 Fredericksburg Va.
