French declared war against England in North America, part of the Austrian Succession, known as King George's War; took place primarily within the British colonies of Massachusetts Bay, New Hampshire and New York & in Nova Scotia. French forces at Louisbourg attacked the British settlements at Canso and Annapolis Royal, and the British retaliated the next year by attacking and capturing Louisbourg.
