Satire on poverty & distress caused by the American Revolution & the taxation to fund that war; shows in a pawnbrokers shop the man behind the counter is bargaining with a customer over a watch, while other customers line up. On the wall above his head is inscribed "Money lent by Judas Gripe."; the sinking fund was a fund of the British government set up of pay off the national debt.
