Item 1 is a receipt for 50 pounds for 1 double lock, 2 pistols, and two other items.

Also included (MSS 890A.2 is an undated transcription (late 19th century) in blue pencil in the hand of George Holden, grandson of Capt. Levi Holden, recipient of the document. Date taken from that transcription.
Levi Holden had been a member of Washington's Life Guard; after the war he lived in Marlboro Massachusetts, which may be where Washington proffered this receipt.
A letter in the case file identifies George as the son of Levi's third son George -- see J.A. O'Reilly, Memorials of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati (2004), p. 179, for further family data.
Later blue envelope that once contained the Washington receipt, removed to case file.
