On board the Marseilillois, March 22, 1781 to April 13, 1782; journal entries begin regularly on November 4, 1781 & continue through the engagement of the Battle of the Saintes.
Log of the Marseilillois, which took part in the battles of Tobago, Yorktown, Cheaspeake & the Saintes, including extracts from other reports of the Yorktown engagement, dialogue between Prince William & the Commander of the British forces in America Henry Clinton, and extracts from New York Gazette, etc.
Castellane-Majastre commanded the Flore from 1778 to 1781, and the Marseilillois from 1781 to the end of the revolutionary war.
Bound in album with vellum wraps.
Accompanied by letters & documents Castellane-Majastre collected for the court martial of his cousin, comte de Grasse after his defeat by General Rodney at the Battle of the Saintes. Comte de Grasse was criticized for his performance & when returning to France, he insisted upon a court martial to clear his name, and clearly solicited material from his subordinate officers to make his case, which he ultimately aquitted (cataloged separately; call no. MSS L2012F57.2-11)
