Note
In an unidentified hand, possibly that of William Tanner or of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton acted as lawyer for Schuyler in the matter of certain lands in Hillsdale, N.Y. and may have copied and retained an original summons in connection with his duties as Schuyler's lawyer. He was also a named party of the first part.
To an unidentified person, probably either Smith Thompson, Robert Troup, or Jonas Platt.
"Sir, You are requested to attend as arbitrator and commissioner between the parties aforesaid, pursuant to an agreement for that purpose and also to an act of the legislature of this state passed the second day of April in this present year at the town of Claverick [i.e., Clarverack] in the county of Columbia at the court house of the said county on Monday the seventeenth day of October next and together with and the other arbitrator and commissioners to hear, examine, settle, and determine as in and by the said agreement and Act is provided [not present]
The act mentioned was passed on April 2, 1803 and named Smith Thompson, Robert Troup, and Jonas Platt commissioners. -- Laws of New York, 26th Session, Chapter LXXVI, pp. 375-382. One of them was probably an addressee.
