Ms. inscriptions & notes on title, front & back pastedowns & endpapers: two former owners, one British & one American officer, who fought in the Revolutionary War; the first one was Second Lt. Daniel Davids of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, signed with the date May 7, 1776, Woolwich Academy, signed again noting his rank as Lieut. Royal Regt. of Artillery at Quebec on September 17, 1776 & then again with the date October 31, 1778, at which time he was a prisoner of the held in Rutland, Massachusetts, captured at Saratoga; the second owner was Lt. John Stone, an American militia officer who served at the Rutland Barracks. Stone signed with the date 1779; numerous literary quotations, written by Davids (and one possibly by Stone) from Shakespeare, William Congreve, Matthew Prior, Alexander Pope, etc.
