Note
Marquis de la Rouërie (known in America as General Charles Armand), writes in phonetic English to Gen. Lincoln about his concerns about the inadequate number of troops he has under his command – at a recent encounter a the house of a Tory (who told him "that he was for the King George and detest'd the rebels") Armand had only 18 men against 300 of the enemy: "I was afraid to be cout and the imposibily to resist with a small body as I had with me, I return and came to our camp ... I think it very dangerues that your honour send such small picquet in that place ..."
