On verso: Saplers [sic] & Miners no. rat[ion]s 18 / Deliv'd 18 [cl?] sugar / 9 P. W. rum / paid L1-12-6
Bushnell, considered the father of the submarine, was appointed Captain -Lieutenant of Sappers and Miners in 1779. He was an original member of the Connecticut Society of the Cincinnati, as was James Beebee (who is listed in Metcalf as Beebe).
