Written by John Ernst von Pirch, after he left the Prussian service, for Marquis de Monteynard, French Minister of War, to eludciate " ... the fundamental rules upon which the whole Prussian tactique is founded ... You were pleased to order me, my Lord to lay them before you ..."--p. 70.
Attempt to systemize the practises of the Prussian army in a series of uniform rules describing the fundamental principles of its mamoeuvres; promptly adopted by the French army & contributed to the development of French tactics.
Author served during the American Revolution at the seige of Gibraltar.
