Head a shoulders almost in profile to the right in uniform. Stipple.
This is a copy of the engraving by Edwin. The library has an original plate marked copy which appears in The Rhode Island Literary Repository, Vol. 1, No. 1, April 1814. The original has the engraver's name centered below the bust. On this copy, the engraver's name has been removed.
No evidence his been found on the artist. However, Edwin was known for engraving portraits after Edward Savage, and so perhaps this was one such engraving.
William Henry Allen was the son of original member of the Society of the Cincinnati, William Allen of the Rhode Island Society. William Henry Allen might have become a successor member but was killed during the War of 1812 prior to the death of his father.
