Calhoun, as Secretary of War writes to the clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives about the pending veteran’s claim of Joseph-Léonard Poirey, who served as an aide-de-camp to Lafayette; petition for the claim originally sent to Congress by Washington at the request of Lafayette. Lafayette also sponsored Poirey as an honorary member of the French Society.
