Campbell killed a fellow officer during an argument in Martinique & he cashiered by a military court, but escaped while awaiting sentence. Later, he charged against his commanding officer, Robert Monckton for "many wrongs and deliberate acts of oppression towards the said Colin Campbell, when under his command in the island of Martinique." Monckton was honorably acquitted.
