This sermon was pronounced in the wake of the Boston Massacre and calls for the clergy to take a stand: "And if he discovered a concern about the civil liberties of the people, it is what he has a right to do in the private capacity, as members of civil society, in the welfare of which he is equally interested as others; and if he does it in his publick ministerial capacity, he does not therefore necessarily act out of character."
