Plates illustrated with pen & sepia ink; drawings of fortifications and siege warfare copied from Vauban's treatises; includes illustrations of figures & uniformed soldiers in tri-cornered hats engaged in military activities, such as firing canons & muskets, and in construction of the fortifications; last 2 drawings highlighted in yellow water color, show some details of the pentagonal forts.
Bound in calf with raised bands, decorated with roulettes in blind along the edges of the covers.
The simple binding gives the appearance that it was American-made; this is possibly a work used as a teaching tool for American officers and military engineers during 18th century.
