Authorship sometimes attributed to Abraham Bishop on behalf of Judd who was ill and died soon after publication.
Defending the author's participation in a meeting of citizens held at New Haven on Aug. 29, 1804.
Obituary notice on p. [24]: "On the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 13th, 1804, died at Farmington, Major William Judd, aged 63 [i.e. 61] ... soon after his arrival in New-Haven, he was confined to his bed, and prevented from making his defence. After a partial recovery, he proposed to his friends, his wish to publish his brief or summary of defence, which being judged advisable, he furnished them with his ideas on this subject, which being reduced to writing, the manuscript and proof sheets were shown to him as fast as they were prepared, and he approved of them ..."
