Note
Note from Princess Alice to Larz Anderson thanking him for his donation to the King Edward VII memorial Nurses and saying what a pleasure it was to make the Anderson's acquaintance during their visit to the Cape.
Telegram from Princess Alice to Larz Anderson thanking him for his letter and generous donation. She also says she has written the Laconia, the Cunard ocean liner on which the Andersons travelled to Africa.
Princess Alice was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria and Countess of Athlone. She married Lord Alexander Cambridge, Count of Athlone, and was vicereine of South Africa from 1924-31 while her husband was governor.
The Edward VII Memorial Nurses were a charitable order created in 1911 to provide basic health services to those in outlying areas with no access to a doctor in their community.
The Andersons were on tour in Africa from January to March of 1928 visiting Dakar, St. Helena, Capetown, Victoria Falls, the eastern coast of Africa, and Cairo. For a description of their visit with the Princess and Count see Isabel's book, Circling Africa, pages 92-94.
