Concerns land along the northwest side of the Ohio River that was granted "by the Commonwealth of Virginia" in December, 1786, to "certain commissioners in trust" for "surveying and apportioning the lands and establishing a town within the said grant...."
"Following a resolution passed at the time that Virginia ceded her Ohio lands to the national government, an exception had been made in favor of the officers and soldiers of the Illinois regiment, who were to receive 150,000... This tract was located opposite Louisville, land now constituting a portion of Clark, Floyd, and Scott counties, Indiana." -- Mason, Kathryn Harrod. James Harrod of Kentucky ((1951) p. 221.
William Harrod, as captain in the Illinois Regiment, was entitled to 3,000 acres. The town of Harrodsburg, Indiana, was named after William. -- Harrod. pp. 221-222
In January, 1778, Clark was authorized to raise a regiment by Virginia governor Patrick Henry and the Virginia council. In June, the regiment departed for the Illinois country. The regiment disbanded in 1784.
