Guide to the warrant issued by Charles II in 1683 for the rationalization of the duties of the Ordnance Board; deals with the disparate components of the British army's artillery and engineer services, with details of the duties of the various officers (the Surveyor General, the Clerk of the Ordnance, the Master Gunner of England and others & "The generall instructions for the com[m]on duty's of the principall officers"; last page shows the confirmation by Queen Anne: "These instructions confirmed by her Majty. the 30th of June 1702. Directed to John Earle of Marlborough the Mar. Genrl."
Bound in black goat skin; spine gilt in 5 compartments with raised bands; both covers gilt ruled border; outer gilt panel with small baroque tooling to each corner & side; all edges gilt, white metal clasps.
Armorial bookplate with motto (Timordei Nobilitas): William C. Lempriere.
