Allegorical representation of the cooperation between France and America in winning the struggle for American independence; inscription on column: "L'Amerique/Et Les mers, /Ô Louis!/Vous Reconnaissent/Pour Leur Liberateur"; column displays the portrait busts of Louis XVI, Franklin and Washington crowned by a sphere bearing the fleur-de-lys, that is topped by a rooster; portrait of Washington, based on a miniature by Charles Wilson Peale; Benjamin Franklin by Augustine de Saint Aubin after a drawing by Charles Nicolas Cochin; right of the column: standing Indian representing America, holding a caduceus in his right hand and a pole with a liberty-cap in his left hand. He tramples a leopard signifying England; ships in the background probably representing the French navy.
