Aguinaldo writes to tell Anderson that he hopes his troops will be allowed to enter Manila as previously promised after concluding a long siege of the city. Aguinaldo offers to send emisaries to negotiate with the Americans in order to "avoid any disagreeable conflict before the eyes of the Spaniards."
The United States seized control of Manila on the previous day, August 13th, following the Battle of Manila. Filipino forces under Aguinaldo were determined to enter the city, however, orders from Washington were to prevent a Filipino occupation of Manila.
Letter housed with handwritten description on brown paper reading "Communication from Aguinaldo, Philippine insurrection leader to General Thomas McArthur Anderson (cousin of L.A.), first American General Officer to lead troops to the Islands in War with Spain."
