Governor Hutchinson's letters to Thomas Whately, British sub-minister for American affairs.
Original letters were obtained by Benjamin Franklin while he was a colonial agent in London. He sent them to friends in Boston with the request that they be kept confidential, and their publication caused great controversy and radicalized many Americans on the question of liberty.

Ms. inscriptions on p. [3] & p. [2nd][1]: Jonathan Metcalf (probably Jonathan Metcalf of Dedham, Mass. who joined the Massachusetts militia & served in the Massachusetts Artillery during the revolutionary war and died of wounds received in action in 1778.
