Bound in full red morocco (rebacked, corners repaired); front & back covers with wide gilt decorative borders & elaborate gilt center ornament with 3 canons.
Bookplate: Jacob Bankson, 1769, No. 114; ms. inscriptions on free endpaper: Jacob Bankson, 1769 (lawyer, also appears on the class roll of the Fifth Battalion Philadelphia Co. Militia, 1781; during the Revolutionary War, he volunteered to serve as a spy for the Americans and was briefly suspected by Washington as being a counter-agent (although later cleared of this suspicion)).
