Account of a case by Sir Michael Foster; Broadfoot murdered Cornelius Calahan, one of the pressgang, to avoid being impressed for naval service. Foster, sitting as Recorder, found him guilty only of manslaughter, not of murder, but while admitting that 'an impress is a restraint upon the natural liberty of those who are liable to it,' he denied that it was forbidden.
