Note
Lincoln writes to congratulate Nicholas Longworth Anderson on his son Larz's appointment in the diplomatic service. Lincoln was mostly responsible for the appointment as he recommended Larz Anderson for the position in the diplomatic corps. Partial transcription in case file.
Lincoln also writes of various family news including the upcoming marriage of his daughter Mary. Mary Todd (Mamie) Lincoln married Charles Bradford Isham in London on September 2, 1891.
Robert Todd Lincoln was the only surviving adult child of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln. He served briefly in the Union Army at the end of the Civil War, became Secretary of War under James Garfield, and was appointed Minister to Great Britain under Benjamin Harrison.
