Note
Schofield thanks Anderson for his invitation to stay at his home in Cincinnati on his Western trip but regrets that he will only have time to visit Chicago. However, he hopes to make a longer visit with his wife the following summer and visit Anderson at that time.
J.M. Schofield was a brigadier general in the Union Army during the Civil War serving extensively in the Western front in Missouri, Arkansas, and Tennessee. He was Secretary of War under Pres. Andrew Johnson from June 1868 to March 1869.
