Note
She discusses the recent Presidential Election and local gossip over the outcome of the results saying, "As there is nothing thought of here but Politicks + Election News." She says, "Both parties claim Indiana, but I think the show thus far is decidedly in favor of Clay." (Indiana went to Polk and Polk ultimately won the Presidency.) She mentions that a "Master Tom" who taught her elder brother William visited and is "very much afraid of Polk's election."
Regarding family news she mentions that she and her husband, Judge Hall, are sitting for a portrait and that "all our little people are well."
Mary Louise Anderson was an elder sister to John Roy Anderson. She was called Louisa by family and here signs the letter L. Anderson, using her maiden name in family correspondence although she married Judge James Hall in 1839, the second marriage for both parties.
Alexander Ferguson Anderson collection.
