As John Webb's attorney, Pendleton institutes a suit "in the name of the said John Webb ... against the said Henry Osborn, James Armstrong, Jacob Weeds representatives, James Seagrove ... to recover the said John Webb's proportion of the proceeds of the sale of the lands obtained by the said parties and sold under the said contract on their joint account...."
At top of p. [4]: The name "James Armstrong" and the word "claimed" erased with a pen on the first page, and the name "McQueen" interlined on the second page."
At bottomof p. [4] August 12th 1801. Received from Mr. John Webb titles to myself and to John Bond by my direction for the lands within mentioned. Nath. Pendleton

Pendleton, who had previously represented Georgia in Congress, moved in 1796 to New York City to practice law.
It is likely that the John Webb mentioned herein is Capt. John Webb of Connecticut. Like Pendleton, he was an aide-de-camp to General Nathanael Greene during the American Revolution and because of this association may have hired Pendleton as his attorney after the war.
