Note
Hall writes regarding the rechartering of Ohio banks and bank reform issues. He asks Latham to support a variety of proposals in the Senate including "limitting the circulation within the amount of the capitol" and not allowing the current charters to lapse amongst other issues.
This letter was written by James Hall-- a prominent Ohio citizen having been at various times a banker, lawyer, judge, state treasurer of Illinois, and a writer of history and fiction. Hall became cashier of the Cincinnati Commercial bank in 1835 and had a vested intrust in banking regulation in the state. The bank charter was allowed to lapse, but it reorganized and reopened under the same name in 1843. Hall became president of the new bank and remained so until his death.
Hall was married to Mary Louise (Louisa) Anderson sister of Latham's wife, Maria Anderson.
Allen Latham was elected to the Ohio state senate in 1841.
