Note
Regarding concerns about the Legislature's policies towards banks and their effect upon state politics. In particular Anderson worries that if the bank charters are allowed to expire, the Democratic party will be soundly defeated by the Whigs in the next election. He asks, "Is it the object of our party to permit the Whigs to carry the state by default as they most undoubtedly will if something is not done towards giving us a good and safe system of banking."
