Note
John Allison, a New York farmer, answered the appeal for troops by Congress in 1775, joining the Continental Army's 3rd New York Infantry. Despite the lack of training, equipment, and clothing, Allison and the rest of his company marched toward Quebec as part of the American invasion of Canada. Allison also fought at Yorktown & served until the war ended.
