Note
Regarding a man name Dewes who purchased land from Judge John Cleves Symmes (Short's grandfather and Harrison's father-in-law) and wants to borrow money. Also contains information regarding politics.
Harrison says, "The nomination of Harrisburgh goes on well And you will by the papers of this city (all) see the result of a meeting at Chivirt?. Some of the most active were the most ___ of the Jackson men Arthur Orr for example. I have no time for particulars. " This is likely a reference to his nomination for president at the Whig party convention in December 1835. Harrison lost his bid for the presidency in 1836, but was elected in 1840.
Short was lawyer and judge in Ohio. He was William Henry Harrison's son-in-law and nephew as he was married in 1814 to Harrison's daughter Betsy (Elizabeth Bassett Harrison), Short's cousin.
There is some staining and the handwriting is difficult to decipher.
Alexander Ferguson Anderson collection.
