Latham is visiting his father-in-law Richard Clough Anderson in Kentucky and writes of various family matters and local gossip.
In particular, he describes a letter his father-in-law just received from his brother-in-law writes Robert Anderson regarding his and Richard Clough Jr.'s travels in Colombia and Panama. News includes that both were ill from "the fever" but have since recovered, remarks on the landscape and natives, and the awaiting of necessary dispatches to attend the Congress of Panama.
