Note
"I am writing to General Wayne and I want the return of the stores forwarded to Pittsburg [sic] -- if this is not ready let me know the quantity of stores and clothing (if any) yet to be forwarded hence. This is important for it they be not arrived Captain Pratts detachment must wait for them at Pittsburg."
Knox, as Secretary of War, writes of his concern for the regiments at Pittsburgh under the command of Anthony Wayne, stationed there to pacify the area after St. Clair's defeat on the Wabash on 4 November 1791. In August 1793, Pratt had been ordered by Knox to transport Wayne's supplies down the Ohio. Apparently no report of the success of that mission had yet been received by July.
